I have (successfully) added hundreds of DVDs to the Library in Plex. I have even successfully added two films which span two discs - "Ben Hur" and "Gone With the Wind", however this weekend I discovered that a third double-disc film was not working in the Library, this being "The Godfather Part II".

The file/folder structure looks like the following -

/FilmShare/DVDs/Ben Hur (1959)/Ben Hur-CD1.VOB
/FilmShare/DVDs/Ben Hur (1959)/Ben Hur-CD2.VOB
/FilmShare/DVDs/Gone With the Wind (1939)/Gone With the Wind-CD1.VOB
/FilmShare/DVDs/Gone With the Wind (1939)/Gone With the Wind-CD2.VOB
/FilmShare/DVDs/The Godfather (1972)/VIDEO_TS/
/FilmShare/DVDs/The Godfather Part II (1974)/The Godfather Part II-CD1.VOB
/FilmShare/DVDs/The Godfather Part II (1974)/The Godfather Part II-CD2.VOB
/FilmShare/DVDs/The Godfather Part III (1990)/VIDEO_TS/

Note: For single disc movies I use the normal VIDEO_TS folder, for double-disc movies I use MTR to extract the main title (of each disc) to a single VOB file which then behaves like a standard MPEG file and should automatically continue to the second part.

For the above, all scrape fine and show the expected info in Library mode, including The Godfather Part II. However of the above all except The Godfather Part II will play. For the Godfather Part II if I try playing it in Library mode it says it cannot find the file even though it has not been moved or renamed after it was added to the library. (I even tried removing and re-scrapping it several times.)

Note: The Godfather Part III also plays fine.

I have set the video source to be films and to use 'enclosing folder' for the name to scrape. If in this case I scrape the file

/FilmShare/DVDs/The Godfather Part II (1974)/The Godfather Part II-CD1.VOB

rather than the enclosing folder, then that file will play in library mode but it does not continue on to part 2 (aka. disc 2).

I have tried renaming the files like the following

/FilmShare/DVDs/The Godfather Part II (1974)/The Godfather-CD1.VOB
/FilmShare/DVDs/The Godfather Part II (1974)/The Godfather-CD2.VOB

and even the enclosing folder

/FilmShare/DVDs/The Godfather (1974)/The Godfather-CD1.VOB
/FilmShare/DVDs/The Godfather (1974)/The Godfather-CD1.VOB

but while it scraped correctly it still would not play correctly. This is with Plex 0.7.12 running under Mac OS X 10.5.6 on a Mac mini.

Someone else was having the exact same problem yesterday, this is what I posted and it fixed it for him:

I'm guessing that having "part II" in it is confusing the library code. I just created two text files in my library and named them this:

the godfather 2 (1974) cd1.avi
the godfather 2 (1974) cd2.avi

And they scrape correctly and look like one movie.

See if that works for you..
I'm bringing Isaac Twiglets right now...

Yes I saw his post and your reply after I finished posting my report, however if you look towards the end of my post you will see I have already tried renaming the files and folders without the Part II bit in them and this made no difference.

Also unlike the other person, it has and still does scrape properly, it merely fails to play.

However I will try and arrange to rename them using your suggestion (just in case). This is a setup I built for a friend so I will not be able to retest immediately.

If you want to go ultra-geek, here's the ultimate solution (you will need a pc, I have not found a similar program on mac):

Rip both disks completely.
Use DVD Remake 3 to merge the two discs together, giving you a 11GB VIDEO_TS folder with a menu at the beginning asking you which disk you want to play.
Make your own pre-menu with iDVD because the stock DVD Remake menu looks like shit.

Now, I could go into more detail, but I had less information when I started (4 hours ago). Google is your friend.
