I have a TV show that gets a new episode each week. I have it set up in the following format:
-ShowName
-Season 1
Episode 1
Episode 2
Plex discovered the show correctly on the first scan and added the two episodes I had. Since then I've dropped a couple of extra episodes in the folder, however "Scan for new content" doesn't add them to my library. The only way to get them to show up is initiate a refresh from the info menu, which loses all my watched/unwatched info.
I'm assuming the new episodes aren't added on a "Scan for new content" because plex has already added Season 1 so it doesn't bother to check the folder for additional files. Is there a setting I can tweak to have it check the seasons it's already added?
Thanks

How are your episodes named?
I got exactly the same problem. Till some weeks ago it worked perfectly fine. Newly added episodes apeared automatically in Plex as desired. But not anymore.
Plex for example doesn't display newest Episodes of "The big bang theory".
Naming, for example:
~/Serien/The Big Bang Theory/Season 3/The big bang theory - S03E12.avi
All files of all seasons are named in this way and til S03E11 this worked. S03E12-15, just for example, is missing. The command "scan for newly added mediafiles" doesn't change anything. I've no clue why it doesn't work.
But with this problem Plex has turned useless for me. Any suggestions?!

Like I said in my initial post you can get them to show up by forcing a refresh from the series info menu. Not ideal, you will lose the watch state of the existing episodes but it will get your new shows to appear.
This issue still needs to be fixed. Seems like a bug in the logic that determines if a folder/show has been scanned.

As has been stated in numerous threads the autoscan feature currently in Plex is very unreliable. The only way to ensure consistent results is to use the manual "Scan for New Content" found in the context menu. If you had Plex set to autoscan at startup and the scraper has skipped episodes, then you will need to remove the show entirely from Plex and rescan it in using Scan for New Content".
As has also been mentioned many times, the library system in Plex is being overhauled. All of these issues will be addressed in subsequent releases.

Ok, will try to do that. So, removing the specific series and later on I've to go to Videos and scan for new media and that's about it? I think I did that once but it resultet in a not reapprearing series.... but I'll try that in the evening. Thx!

Yup that's it. That's what I do with my new episodes and it works great.

OK, tried that - doesn't work. I've removed in my case TBBT from the library, i've done the command "scan for new mediafiles". What happened is now that it found the folder but it couldn't scrape TBBT. It didn't appear with the TBBT cover and sound but only with standardicon and the episodes were missing. When I scanned for invalid database entries in Settings/Video later on, TBBT disappeared again...
