Hi,

I've started developing a new Plex Media Server plugin for EyeTV. It is a very rough first draft, but I need some testers outside of my own home :)

If you're interested, please post in this topic or PM me with your country, the reception type you're using (antenna, cable, satellite, analogue, digital...) I appreciate all help I can get for this. You'll receive in response the download instructions for the plugin and some installation help. I need someone with some time to really test this out.

The current state can be seen here.

When I try to watch a channel via Plex I get:
Error
Could not read input from stream.

I'm getting the same error. CyTV doesn't appear to be loading.

Hi,

the Plex log is ok, nothing wrong there. The com.plexapp.plugins.eyetv.log should be located in your Home directory, in Library/Logs/PMS Plugin Logs. If you can't find it try to search for it using Spotlight. This one is more important to me as it provides me with the information necessary to see what happened inside the plugin itself.

Thanks!

Edit:

Please check that the Run CyTV on start preference of the plugin is enabled. If CyTV isn't running you won't get Live TV at all.

I got the same problem, not able to load stream...

" Could not read from input stream "

cyTV is enabled to run on startup.

How do I see the port EyeTV is running?

@jlwest

The file you posted in #27 is not the EyeTV plugin log, but the plex log. Please open up Console.app and look there on the left pane for the com.plexapp.plugins.EyeTv.log.

@mkh

EyeTV runs on port 2170. If you access http://localhost:2170/eyetv with your browser, you should see the iPhone WiFi access pages. To check if CyTV is running go to http://localhost:8001/.

Ok, I've made a small update to the Plugin and I think I found the bug experienced by jlwest and others. The update now checks that CyTV is running before letting you inside the EyeTV plugin menus and shows an error message if CyTV or EyeTV are not running. Unfortunately I can't do much about it if you quit CyTV/EyeTV and then click a TV/Recording link. The attachment below contains the new plugin version.

The Bug related to Live-TV appears to be a tuning issue. If you don't have a Live-TV window open in EyeTV, CyTV seems to be unable to change the channel and you don't get a video stream to show this. I'm working on solving it, but it'll take a bit.

Hi,

I am having similar problem. CyTV does not seem to start (browsing to localhost:8001) and the only error I can see in the logs is:

Plex_Media_Server[2177]: /Users/przemek/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/EyeTV.bundle/Contents/Helpers/CyTV: line 2: /Users/przemek/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/EyeTV.bundle/Contents/Helpers/CyTV.app/Contents/MacOS/CyTV: Permission denied

Any clues?

Thanks,
Przem

Sorted. Looks like a permission problem.
What I did was:

chmod a+x /Users/przemek/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/EyeTV.bundle/Contents/Helpers/CyTV.app/Contents/MacOS/CyTV

(replace przemek with your username)

Good luck!

Hi jlwest,

thanks for the logs indeed this looks like a permissions issue like liqu posted above. Try to change the settings as liqu posted above using Terminal. I'll see what I can do about that.

It is important that all files in the /Users/$USER/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/EyeTV.bundle/Contents/Helpers and /Users/$USER/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/EyeTV.bundle/Contents/Helpers/CyTV.app/Contents/MacOS/ folders have the execute bit set. The following commands should do it, if they don't:

chmod a+x /Users/$USER/Library/Application\ Support/Plex\ Media\ Server/Plug-ins/EyeTV.bundle/Contents/Helpers/*
chmod a+x /Users/$USER/Library/Application\ Support/Plex\ Media\ Server/Plug-ins/EyeTV.bundle/Contents/Helpers/CyTV.app/Contents/MacOS/*

I'll have to ask the AppMaker guys if they can preserve the access rights.

Ok, used latest build of plug-in and cut and paste the two lines into terminal.
I have EyeTV running and start Plex.
Drill down to watch EyeTV in Plex- CYTV starts, but I still get:
Error
Could not read from input stream.
Hopefully I did something wrong...
Latest log:

Ok, nothing wrong with your setup. It seems EyeTV returns the channel numbers in a weird format. Can you please PM me with the channel list by downloading it from your browser using http://localhost:217...ve/channels/0/0 - I'll try to figure something out from there.

Thanks!
grover

Edit: EyeTV has to be running for this.

Edit2: Out of curiousity, could you please start Plex go into the EyeTV plugin menu, switch to a browser and download http://localhost:800.../channels?to=-1 and send that to me in a PM too? Thanks.

Ok in order to fix the tuning issue jlwest faced, I made a new built, which resorts to EyeTV to tune channels. Unfortunately this makes EyeTV transcode the channel for the iPhone for approx. 5 minutes causing a lot of load in those cases only. I don't have a different way to do it differently - I'll have to try to get the CyTV sources for that.

Anyways the new build is attached below.

My experiences with 0.2 version:

I have set all the files in the Helper folder as well as CyTV in CyTV.app/Contents/MacOS/ to 777. CyTV still doesn't launch with plex it only launches directly after the install of the eyetv plugin or when I launch it manually.

I attach the log files with the following scenario.
* I launch EyeTV
* I launch Plex
* I go to eyetv plugin and it says that CyTV is not started.
* I command+H out to the terminal and start CyTV
* Go back into Plex and choose eyetv plugin.
* It launches and I go to live TV.
* Channel list is chown and I choose a channel I have access to.
* Focus goes to the eyetv window but I can only see the dock and the menubar due to that Plex is ontop.
* I get the error "Could not read from input stream." after a while.
* Jump out to real eyetv and sees the live tv window frozen on the correct channel (so the change of channel seems to work. I have tested with different sets of channels).

I have also checked that eyetv is working on localhost:2170/eyetv as well as that I can see CyTV on localhost:8001. However in the last case Safari says that in cannot find the Internet plug-in. I install VLC but I get no difference in this behavior.

Should VLC be configured?
Should eyetv be configured in a special way?

I have installed Macports but not Xcode or Imagemagic package. Not ffmpex through macports either (since I haven't had the time to install Xcode).

Hi phindus,

you really need to install ffmpeg - the version I bundled is not the full ffmpeg as it requires the shared libraries of the MacPorts ffmpeg. As you don't have them CyTV will fail to start ffmpeg. So your best bet is to install XCode + MacPorts + ffmpeg. You can check your system.log in Console, if it contains something along the following lines:

dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libavfilter.dylib
Referenced from: /Users/$USER/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/EyeTV.bundle/Contents/Helpers/CyTV.app/Contents/Resources/ffmpeg_custom
Reason: image not found

This is the last error remaining on the plugin side for you to enjoy live tv.

@jlwest

The above lines were taken from your log. You're missing MacPorts and ffmpeg. You have to install them and everything should be sorted out.
