ah, then it´s 5.1 or just stereo?
when will dts work?
thanks!

AC3 5.1 will work, and DTS will be converted to AC3 in the next release of PMS.

Superb news. If there will be some subtitle size fixing too, I will just delete ... the other media player for ATV2. Plex rules them all :)

I was trying to play some mkv h.264 videos with embeded vobsub subtitles (created with Handbrake from a DVD). Subtitles show just fine and correct on a Mac client. When transcoding to ATV2g only gibberish characters - mostly single, sometimes two - show up.
I just see, it's the same with the 'regular' iOS client (i.e. playing the same movies on my iPhone) so it looks rather to be a PMS / transcoding issue than an ATVg2 one.

I'm using a Windows 7 pc as PMS and I have problems with the subtitle sizes, there are cases when the subtitles are so big that are all over the screen. Will try to take a screenshot later on.

This is a known issue with PMS, not the ATV client. The PMS developers are well aware of it.

To others who are experiencing this issue, I have raised a ticket

https://plexapp.ligh...ittently-occurs

Hi,

I am running beta 5 and I keep on encountering an error.

What happens is while playing a file i get a message "an error occurred loading this content"
after this i can press select and then re-select the file and continue playing it, it normally keeps playing for less than 1 minute before the appletv frontend crashes and restarts
after this the plex menu on the appletv does not show items from my plex server, I have to go into the settings in the plex menu and then back out of it before the media library sections will show up on the appletv

This happens with 720p h264 videos and also with standard def xvid files. It does not happen consistently on specific files and often i can play a few files all the way though with no problem.

I have looked at the bug tracker and can not find a ticket that pertains to this error.

Should I raise a ticket, or should I post media server logs on here?

Thanks

In my case, anyway, it seems the issue is this. For 1080p H.264 mkv files, PMS is only remuxing, not transcoding (the log says !!! WILL copy the video stream) REGARDLESS of the quality setting in the ATV client. So, the ATV is playing the 1080p file, running out of memory, and crashing.

Could somebody bring me up to speed on this - is the memory issue one that's out of our control? Is there a way for it to play 1080p without crashing due to memory? (That would obviously be best.)

Otherwise, PMS will need to actually transcode 1080p movies to an acceptable bitrate for the ATV to not crash (i.e. respect the bitrate setting in the client).

Edit: correction - it seems PMS is misinterpreting the bitrate of some particular files, thereby enabling direct streaming when it shouldn't be. My question about 1080p memory still stands though.

You se I do not get this. Why is it that I am able to play 1080p movies on APTV2 and not on Plex or the new player from firecore.

I assume you mean the homeshare client that is built into the ATV? The reason it handles playing video files so well is it is a App that Apple developed. They know all of the ins and outs of iOS on the ATV and have private libraries as well that no other client is using (other than XBMC) they cache content to the hard drive as well instead of in memory like all of the other client running on the ATV (Plex/XBMC) not sure about firecore though.

You can possible get your 1080P content to play if you decrease the quality in Plex on the ATV. Set it to 5mpbs or so and see how well it plays.

I think I hit a bug.
When PMS server is using authentication it doesn't work. I see in the log the client didn't send authentication. I can browe the librairy but as soon as I start the movie it restarts. I even don't see the preplay screen.

Tks,

Xavier

Are you using Beta5? Can you post logs and/or open a ticket on lighthouse https://plexapp.ligh...client/overview
There were some authentication issues but they were fixed in Beta5. Not sure if yours are the same issues or not, that is why we need the logs.

Yes I'm using beta 5. I'll open a ticket and post the log.

I have the same experience.
MKV files created from Handbrake with subtitles looks fine in Plex on Max OS X, but generates gibberish characters on IOS. (ATV2 and iPad)

I really think we need an updated Plex Media Server for Windows first (for the subtitles).
And am I the clumsy one or did channel management get lost on Beta 5 Atv2 client?

Just read an article that says apple is rumoured to support 1080p content, since appletv doesn't maybe they will be a new one, hopefully if it can be jailbroke it would be better than the current one for plex since it would have more memory?
Plex Server - i7 920, 12GB RAM, 3X2TB, 2X1TB, 1X500GB, Windows 7 X64 Ultimate.
Network - 100Mbit wired, 300Mbit Wireless (oh so theoretical!!!)
Plex Clients - MacBook Pro, AppleTV
